In our day to day practice we often asked these questions i.e. When should we visit urologist?  What disease can an urologist treat?  Is that urologist can treat disease regarding stones only? So this article will help you to know more about your above mentioned doubts.

A urologist treats a variety of conditions of the urinary tract – infective, traumamatic, birth defects and cancers to name a few.

These are some of the reasons for which you may need to consult a urologist:

* Pain in your lower back, stomach, or groin ( kidney stones)
* Pain while urinating (urinary infection or stones)
* Blood in urine ( infection or stone or cancer)
* Loss of bladder control
* Trouble having or keeping an erection.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

BPH is a condition in which prostate size is enlarged. That enlarged size can cause pressure on the urinary tract which will further lead to present in some groups of symptoms i.e. frequency of micturition, hesitancy in micturition, weak stream of urine etc. mainly this affects older male.

Urinary Incontinence:

Urinary incontinence is a condition in which one lose control over bladder which is presented as leaking of urine. Causes of urinary incontinence may any from following.

  • Diabetes
  • Pregnancy Or Childbirth
  • Overactive Bladder
  • Enlarged Prostate
  • Weak Bladder Muscles
  • Weak Sphincter Muscles (Muscles Supporting The Urethra)

  • Injury to the Spinal Cord
  • Severe Constipation

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

Most common and mostly under treated disease is urinary tract infection. This is more common in females in comparison to male. It should be treated in females on the merits of the associated urinary tract.. Burning and painful micturition, frequent micturition and sometimes fever with chills are symptoms of UTI.

Stones in Urinary Tract

Stones in any place in the urinary system can be treated by a urologist. Presentation of symptoms may vary from size of stone, place where it is present in person to person. Stone in kidney has different line of treatment and stone in ureter has different line of treatment.
